Our Story

Amigo Mobility Center is committed to finding the best product for each individual as you become a part of our family.

Amigo Mobility International

In the late 1960’s, a young Michigan native worked to create a mobility solution to help his loved one who had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

With this vision, Al Thieme, a plumbing and heating contractor, went on to invent the first-ever mobility scooter, a power-operated vehicle called the “Amigo” and on November 12, 1968, the Amigo Mobility International, Inc. manufacturing company was founded.

Al’s dream for accessibility quickly became a family-run endeavor, and in 1984 expanded into opening our “stores.” Amigo Mobility Centers were developed to provide a well-rounded experience for clients, which include in-home evaluations, maintenance service and additional mobility related products.
